Payments & Refunds
Last Updated August 2026
There are two kinds of payments here: what a client pays a photographer for a session, and what a photographer pays Rooted Sessions for their plan. They work differently, so they're covered separately.
Session Payments
Session payments go to your photographer through their own connected payment account. You'll usually pay a deposit to hold the date, with the balance due before the session — or split across a payment plan if your photographer offers one. Every payment sends you an emailed receipt, and your portal always shows what's paid and what's still due.
Card payments may include a processing fee, shown clearly on the checkout screen before you pay. Nothing is added after the fact.
Deposits, Cancellations And Session Refunds
Your photographer's agreement — the contract you sign during booking — sets the cancellation and refund terms for your session. In most cases deposits are non-refundable because they hold a date the photographer then turns away. Read that section of your contract before you book; it's the document that governs.
To cancel or move a date, message your photographer from your portal or use the reschedule request button on your booking. Refunds for a session are issued by the photographer, not by Rooted Sessions.
Photographer Subscriptions
Every photographer starts with a 7-day free trial and isn't charged until it ends. After that, plans renew automatically each month or year until cancelled.
Cancel anytime from Studio → Billing. Cancelling stops the next charge and keeps your Studio open through the end of the period you've already paid for. We don't pro-rate part-used months.
If you're charged by mistake, or you cancel and something goes wrong, email us and we'll make it right.
Chargebacks
Please contact your photographer — or us, for a subscription charge — before opening a dispute with your bank. Almost everything is faster to fix directly.
